Community Service Projects and Activities
Community service is a focus of the Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club. The Club organizes the annual Moraga Citizen of the Year Award Banquet in cooperation with its co-sponsors, the Moraga Chamber of Commerce, the Lamorinda Weekly and St. Mary’s College; provides volunteers for community events such as the 4th of July and the Pear &Wine Festival; and is involved in improvement projects for local parks and school playgrounds. Examples of the Club’s service projects and activities are:
- Painting a map of the United States on the playground pavement at Rheem Elementary School
- Planting daffodil bulbs in scenic corridor locations specified by the Town
- Collecting toys for contribution to the Toys for Tots program
- Providing volunteers for the Letter Carriers Food Drive and the NBC Safeway Food Drive
In addition to these direct community services projects and activities, the Club, through its affiliated tax-deductible Foundation, conducts fundraising activities and contributes the funds to the three Lamorinda K-12 public school foundations and to other local charitable organizations providing services to children and their families, as well as to seniors.
